Spelling Bee Hints Without Spoilers
Hints mode is for the moment you are stuck and still want the solve to be yours. You see the shape of the hive, not the vocabulary list.
How to use spelling bee hints
- Enter the seven letters with the center in gold.
- Read the totals before you open the grid.
- Use the two-letter list only for the prefix that has you stuck.
What a hint page shows
You get four numbers first: how many words fit, how many of them are pangrams, the maximum score, and the Genius line at 70 percent. That is enough to know whether the hive is a short one or a monster.
Under that is a grid. Each row is a starting letter and each column is a length. A 4 in the column for five-letter words means four words of that length start with that letter. You still have to think of them.
The two-letter list
The two-letter list is the next step when the grid is not enough. CH 4 means four answers begin with CH. It is a strong hint, so treat it as optional. Players who want a lighter touch can ignore it and use only the totals.
HiveMate never mixes the answer words into this view. If you want them, switch to Answers on purpose.
A fair way to use hints
Look at the totals, find a few more words, and only then open the two-letter list for the bucket you cannot crack. The AI coach can turn those counts into a sentence, such as which starting letter is heaviest, without naming the words.
Frequently asked questions
Are these the same hints as a hints site that tracks the official puzzle?
The idea is the same: counts and prefixes, not a word dump. The numbers come from HiveMate’s dictionary for the letters you entered, not from a saved official list.
Can hints still spoil the puzzle?
Totals barely spoil anything. The two-letter list spoils more, because it narrows each word to a prefix. Stop there if you still want the fun.
